Current Junior News

Hertfordshire has many talented junior chess players and many more who just enjoy playing chess. The County has become relatively successful over the past few years regularly performing well at Under 9 and Under 11 level. Whilst the number of schools playing chess is far too low, several clubs have strong junior sections. Many schools would like to offer chess but cannot find coaches (whether paid or unpaid) to run a chess club. Fortunately several of the public schools such as Haberdashers' Aske's provide many players but there are a good number from the state sector as well.

The HSCA under the guidance of Chair Sally Little provides opportunities for play through competitions and coaching up to the age of 14.

The most recent event was the London Junior Qualifier held at Roundwood School, Harpenden on 9th October 2005.
