Season 2002 - 2003

6th April 2003

History was made yesterday when the Under 9s won the EPSCA final held at Chancellor's School, Brookmans Park. Further details can be found here. Herts juniors had never won a final before and even finished last in one recent year. Well done everyone. Photos can be found at:- http://www.familymoss.com/ChessU9Final.htm. Herts 28.5, Wey Valley - Surrey 26, Buckinghamshire 24 (on tie-break from Richmond). Nineteen counties took part.

9th March 2003

The Under 14/U90 team produced a fine win against Richmond by 17-7. Details here. This represents a real highpoint for Herts junior chess and we look forward to the final.

8th March 2003

The Under 9s came second in their EPSCA zonal held at Sutton. The details can be found here. This result confirms the continuing development of Herts junior chess. The final will be held at Chancellor's School, Brookmans Park in April.

19th January 2003

The finals are the HSCA Under 9, Under 11 and Under 14 competitions were held today. Full details here

24th November

The Under 14 team scored a famous victory over Richmond at Roundwood School, Harpenden. The first round went 8-4 to Herts with the second round being won by Richmond by 6.5 to 5.5. Herts triumphed by 13.5 to 10.5 even though several strong players were missing.

17th November

No problems gaining access to Sunny Bank School in Potters Bar and a good turnout across all three sections. Full results here. Well done to Joel Ward (Premier), David Phillips (U11) and William Moss (U9). David and William move up a section.

2nd November

After an early scare when it looked as if we wouldn't gain access to the school and then a few minutes of the burglar alarm, the Roundwood Junior Tournament took place. The results are here. Congratulations to Thomas Gosling (Premier), Robert Marx, Rory Scott and Christopher Belfield (Under 11) and Vishaal Patel (Under 9). Apart from Thomas all of these players move up to the next section.

13th October

The Mill Mead junior tournament saw section wins for Rishi Chotai (U9), Cameron Little (U11) and Nishil Shah. Edward Little also achieved promotion to the Premier section. Details here.

22nd September 2002

Our London Junior Qualifier was held at Fleetville School. The crosstables can be found here. Report to follow.

17th September 2002

Two of our juniors were in action last weekend. Emma Williams played for the victorious Welsh junior under 12 mixed team scoring 2.5 / 3 with wins against Warwickshire and North Wales and a draw against Ireland. Scotland were due to compete but withdrew. Emma played on board 8.

Yvette Cook played in the under 100 section of the North Essex Congress at Braintree. Despite being heavily outgraded, Yvette plugged away and scored 1.5 / 5 which included a pleasant last round win.

On Sunday 22nd September, we host a London Junior Qualifier at Fleetville School in St Albans. Already we have entries from all over the country. Results to follow.
